ISRAEL ORDERS MASS EVACUATIONS AHEAD OF GROUND OFFENSIVE
The Israeli military has issued urgent evacuation orders for Rafah, Gaza’s southernmost city, signaling preparations for a large-scale ground operation. Over 1.4 million displaced Palestinians, many already displaced multiple times since the war began, are being forced to flee to makeshift coastal tent camps like Muwasi. Humanitarian agencies warn the move will deepen Gaza’s catastrophic conditions, with the UN stating Israel has now designated two-thirds of Gaza as “no-go zones” for civilians.
The evacuation aligns with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s strategy to divide Gaza by establishing a “security zone” between Khan Younis and Rafah, aiming to sever Hamas’s operational ties in the region.
TARGETING OF MEDICS AND AID WORKERS SPARKS OUTRAGE
A lethal March 23 attack on Gaza medics in Rafah has drawn international condemnation. Footage released by the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) contradicts Israel’s initial claims, showing clearly marked ambulances with flashing lights struck by sustained Israeli gunfire. Fifteen medics and aid workers were killed, with survivors and forensic reports alleging they were targeted at close range. Some victims were later found buried under sand and nets in a mass grave.
While Israel initially accused the convoy of “suspicious movement,” it later admitted “mistakes” in its account. The International Federation of Red Cross called the incident the deadliest attack on aid workers in years, noting over 408 humanitarian personnel have been killed in Gaza since October 2023.
“APOCALYPTIC” CONDITIONS OVERWHELM HOSPITALS
Hospitals in central Gaza, including al-Ahli, are described as “apocalyptic” by UN officials. Overcrowded facilities lack basic supplies, with staff reporting patients dying of untreated wounds and decomposing bodies piling up. Philippe Lazzarini, head of UNRWA, condemned Israel’s “pinball” displacement tactics: “People are exhausted, traumatised, and completely broken.”
POLITICAL TENSIONS STALL CEASEFIRE EFFORTS
Ceasefire negotiations remain deadlocked. Hamas demands a permanent truce and full Israeli withdrawal, while Israel insists on disarming Hamas and retaining security control. Meanwhile, Netanyahu’s government has vowed to implement a Trump-era proposal for the “voluntary immigration” of Gazans, a plan widely condemned as a blueprint for forced expulsion.
INTERNATIONAL CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY
The UN and humanitarian groups are demanding independent investigations into the medics’ killings, citing distrust in Israel’s internal probes. “This cannot be swept under the rug,” stated a Red Crescent spokesperson. Global leaders warn the Rafah offensive risks triggering further mass casualties in a region where 85% of Gaza’s population is already displaced. This is a developing story. Updates to follow.
